What You'll Learn

A practical introduction to real-world delivery of high-performance buildings — with guidance drawn from years of hands-on site experience. Understand where projects succeed or fail, and how to plan, cost, and manage for success.

Key learning outcomes:

  • Learn what “good” looks like on a high-performance site
  • Understand why the performance gap is an issue
  • Plan and manage airtightness effectively
  • Learn to assess and cost high-performance projects
  • Avoid mistakes, risk and reworks
  • Identify issues — and how to solve them

Energy standards such as UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard, LETI, AECB Carbonlite, NABERS and Scottish School funding programmes all require real energy performance results to be achieved. With extensive experience of delivering high performance projects under our belts, we share key principles and strategies for achieving quality outcomes - whatever standard you are aiming for.

The principles are straightforward, but applying them to real projects can get complicated! We'll help you understand what quality you're aiming for on high performance projects, where problems arise and how to tackle them to successfully manage airtightness and risk on site and avoid costly mistakes.

Topics covered:

  • The Performance Gap and why it matters
  • Achieving Airtightness
  • Making Insulation Work
  • Glazing
  • Building Services
  • Construction Quality
  • Next steps + progression

Ideal for:

  • Main contractors & subcontractors - know what to look out for and how to plan for success.
  • Project managers & site supervisors - understand the quality you're aiming for and how to manage risk on site.
  • Clients, procurement & commercial teams - learn how to effectively assess and cost high performance projects
  • Design managers & delivery leads - understand what systems you need in place to ensure successful outcomes and avoid costly mistakes.
  • Senior leadership and supply chain partners - understand how the whole team work together to deliver quality results.

Whether or not your project is targeting certification, this course helps teams build to perform — not just build to comply.

Recommended progression: If you are a key decision maker for your project consider continuing your training with Passivhaus for Contractors or Certified Passivhaus Tradesperson to deepen your technical knowledge and confidence further with all of these aspects. As projects get larger or more complex it's worthwhile increasing your team's knowledge pool. If you're not sure what course is right for you, get in touch.
