About this course

If you have some prior understanding of Passivhaus or have completed our CERTIFIED PASSIVHAUS DESIGNER or CERTIFIED PASSIVHAUS TRADESPERSON training, and want to learn how to apply that learning to site, this course is for you!
Bringing together designers and contractors and led by experienced practitioners, our practical session builds on the theory covered in those courses and allows participants to explore the realities of delivery.
For Designers & Consultants - This course will help you assess the buildability of the design, appreciate what contractors need to know and effectively support them through the process.
For Tier 1 Contractors - Gain the knowledge to effectively plan and manage a successful Passivhaus build from assessing the design for risks, to understanding what it takes to achieve a quality build in practice.
For Practitioners & Operatives: Practitioners and operatives attending the Passivhaus Practical Training can expect to enhance their Passivhaus expertise by bridging the gap between design and construction, assessing design risks, mastering airtightness techniques, and gaining practical knowledge about material selection and sequencing.

Course Structure
“You’ve got all the theory but doing it for real is something else.”
Delivered at BE-ST’s ground-breaking A LAB on their purpose built campus in Hamilton, this training is run in partnership between Coaction Training CIC (formerly Carbonlite/WARM Passivhaus Training) and BE-ST, both not-for-profit organisations passionate about upskilling the construction industry for a low carbon future.
During the day our hands-on activities will give you rapid upskilling in:
- Designing for construction: what’s really needed to get it right and what are the consequences of not doing it well.
- How to assess the risks in a design.
- What can go wrong, how to avoid it, and remedial work; learn from our experience and mistakes!
- What good looks like: airtightness, insulation and more.
- What it takes to achieve airtightness.
- Impact of sequencing and material choices on build quality.
Each session is run by two experienced Passivhaus trainers. All our trainers are active practitioners currently working in the Passivhaus sector, sharing their experience of best practice and tackling the real issues that projects may encounter.
You will work in small groups throughout the day to complete a number of practical activities and all training materials are provided and included in the cost of the course.
